principal saxophone instructor was Professor Harvey Pittel. Mr. McPhail accepted an invitation to travel to and perform with Professor Pittel at the famed Brevard Music Center. While at Brevard, Mr. McPhail performed with both the Wind Ensemble under the baton of Maestro Jamie Haffner and the Festival Orchestra under the direction of Maestro David Effron. Mr. McPhail was an integral part of The University of Texas Wind Ensemble under the baton of Maestro Jerry Junkin and the U.T. Saxophone Choir TEX-SAX, performing on sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones. He has appeared as featured soloist with the Victoria College Band, the Victoria Community Band, Canyon Ridge Middle School Band. He has also guest conducted the Victoria College and Community Bands.  As a member of The ELISION Saxophone Quartet, Mr. McPhail recently returned from a wildly successful 6 province tour of China in December 2006.

Mr. McPhail has collaborated with distinguished musicians and conductors including Mitch Miller, Dan Welcher, Donald Grantham, Ivan Thomas, Gail Nelson, Daron Hagen, Maureen McGovern and Michael Haithcock. Mr. McPhail's versatility as an instrumentalist enabled him to perform in the pit orchestra for musicals "The Wiz" and "Guys and Dolls". His talents also enabled him to be part of the world premier BANDANA, an opera by Daron Hagen.

Mr. McPhail has shared his musical talents with the Leander, Austin, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Victoria and Bloomington Independent School Districts. He also worked with and nurtured music education/performance with senior adults in the University of Texas community outreach program New Horizons.  Mr. McPhail also appears to lead master classes as well as adjudicate for school districts around Texas.

BillyJon McPhail joined The ELISION Saxophone Quartet as Solo Baritone Saxophonist in the 2000 season, where he has performs numerous concerts each year.  He is also a founding member of CapitalSAX, an Austin based saxophone ensemble performing both private and public functions.

Mr. McPhail is a free-lance saxophonist in Austin, TX and maintains a growing studio of private lesson students. A versatile musician having appeared both as a soloist and member of many distinguished ensembles, Billy McPhail is becoming increasingly sought after.  His willingness and desire to share his talents and encourage growth and participation in the field of music education has led Mr. McPhail to several teaching positions in the public and private sectors.
